"Check FUR Monsturz"
Reading short stories are always a fun pastime of mine; whether from Reddit or even Creepypasta, the diversity of genres seem to be endless. With this, as a challenge to myself, I chose to create a cover based off one of my favorite and creepiest short stories.
Story: I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, "Daddy check for monsters under the bed." I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, "Daddy there's somebody on my bed."
Eerie, Intrigue, Spooky
Keeping with the simplicity of the story, I wanted to keep the cover as simple yet eerily intriguing as I could. Additionally, the theme of an alternate, scarier universe is hiding underneath, this is illustrated in the tiny set of eyes barely peeking out from under the reflecting bed. To highlight the childlike premise, I opted to misspell the title.
The back cover follows the same theme as the rest of the jacket. Due to the shorty story being anonymous, an author's bio was not necessary, this gave me extra freedom to tweak the typography and thusly, the hierarchy of importance in a way that enticed the reader into the story. You really don't know who is lurking.
